Terracotta Jalis Installation

We successfully designed and installed authentic terracotta jalis for Ramoji Film City’s heritage section, bringing traditional architectural charm to life with handcrafted screens. These jalis were created to provide natural ventilation and light filtration while reflecting cultural authenticity, perfectly complementing the film city’s period sets. By combining artistry with modern durability techniques, the project delivered sustainable features that enhanced both functionality and aesthetics.

The project required careful attention to challenges such as creating historically accurate patterns, ensuring the structural integrity of fragile terracotta, and meeting strict safety regulations. Additionally, large-scale production of handcrafted elements had to be managed without compromising detail, while weatherproofing was essential to protect the installations from Hyderabad’s tropical climate.

To overcome these challenges, our team collaborated with historians to ensure authenticity in design and used reinforced terracotta made from specialized clay mixtures. Hidden steel supports were integrated into the jalis to provide stability without affecting their traditional appearance. A nano-coating was applied to achieve water resistance while retaining the natural finish, and rigorous quality control ensured consistency across handcrafted pieces. This thoughtful blend of tradition and innovation allowed us to deliver a project that honored cultural heritage while meeting modern performance standards.
